On 01/18/10 my husband was arrested for smashing my computer with an ax. He thought I was having an online affair.

He was released the next day. No bail. No arrainment.

43 days later he appeared for a pre-trial. They re-arrested him and placed a no-contact order on him.

$1,000 bail then $3500 for a lawyer.

He took an anger management evaluation, and on April 15th had another court date. At this hearing, they claimed they didn't have his anger evaluation report and set another court date for May 11th.

Today is May 3rd. Next Tuesday we'll find out if the no-contact order will be dropped or not. They offered him 2 years probation and 14 weeks of anger management classes but his lawyer thinks he can get a 1 year probation and 10 weeks of anger management.

I will keep you posted, but this time apart has been really difficult. I suggest to anyone in the beginning stages of this, to take some deep breaths because it's not going to happen quickly!

It's been 64 days and we're still looking at possibly a year of no-contact if convicted.

go to the courthouse, leave a request for a no contact order modification/termination hearing. this is if the prosecutor will not help you, which he/she should, but sometimes wont.
they will schedule a hearing date for you, then just make sure you appear on that day, ready to present your concerns. Be passionate, but not emotional.

I got a ticket for speeding in a Lynnwood school zone at 10:00am. I don't know how big the zone is but there is no school around nor 20mph school zone signs.

So, its been almost a month since me and son have seen hubby. IT has sucked and feels so lonely. I just want to cry all the time. Spring break is here, Easter has just passed, my birthday come and gone and he is still in jail just because things got out of hand that night. I feel so HELPLESS!! I go to all his hearings, and he asked the judge if he can please write to our son and the judge just said plain "no" like it was no big deal. my son is so sad. I then went to dshs to ask for assistance, but they said the he would have to pay it all back!! WTH??? So, we already have lost out on his unemployment because he has been in jail, and he would pay if he could, but if he has to pay welfare back, then I pay it back because we are married and it comes from the same pot. I AM ALREADY BEHIND IN BILLS!!! I don't need another debt. Then does anyone know about fines when they sentence him? I read 5,000 max. Again, if they do that, then I have to pay it because it comes from the same pot! I am so frustrated. No one tells me at the courthouse EXACTLY how to lift the no contact order. THE NO CONTACT PART HAS DESTROYED MY LIFE!!!!

When I contacted my legislator, I was told that these laws couldn't be changed unless I got a group of people together to lobby.

Tim, I wish I would have read and responded to your post sooner- my man got a great female lawyer and I really think that helped big-time. I hope that you were able to find one and resolve this.

Mark- man, I wish I saw that sooner, I have been pretty busy. What is 'your group'? And when will this happen again? Can you keep us posted? Thanks!

JAN- and EVERYONE ELSE, especially dealing with the Seattle jurisdiction- we NEED to step up instead of just complaining. I continue to read these incredibly sad stories....Even if you were to join my fb page, it won't be getting to the people we need it to get to. We need to get to the bottom of this- Sure, it's great to contact the state, but it really comes down to each jurisdiction. If you have a problem with a particular jurisdition, you need to find out who to contact. The chief judge, the mayor, city attorney, hell- even the news!!! Man, what if we compiled these heartbreaking stories and submit them to the news??? Plus we each send our individual letters to the city's contacts...do you realize that if we all do that, what a stir that will cause? We really need to be on this and have a deadline for all of it so that these letters and this compilation to the news hits like a ton of bricks!!!! I can definately take the initiative to lead for Seattle, but for those dealing with other jurisdiction, you are more than welcome to do the same thing. Let's hit them like they've never been hit before...maybe someone will wake up and smell the injustice!!!

Thanks Catherine! Seriously. I am just so sad, I feel like I am losing my mind. I cry so hard EVERYDAY. I just want my family back. I feel paralyzed right now with a deep sadness that I cannot cope with. I will keep you posted, as I talk with a low income lawyer ASAP. I also think it is INSANE how they don't explain what you can do for assistance if your loved one is in jail and we were living off his unemployment. No we won't even get that, and I have been laid off for 4 months myself and no luck still finding work. So now what? Me and my son live in our car---before it gets repossesed? The courts don't take any of this into consideration and they don't care. They order the no contact and its on to the next case. God be with us.
